Here's something a little different. I'd like to share pictures of this early Walther PP in 7.65mm (.32ACP) made in 1932 in the Zella Mehlis (Thuringia) factory. It has a six digit serial number (787547) without suffix; a 90 degree safety and the more extended barrel that protrudes from the receiver at the muzzle. This one has the serial number stamping oriented like later PP pistols. It's finish is original and it's all matching, but the finish has some pitting and bluing loss. The bore is pristine and it functions like it was new. Came with a Walther banner magazine and original holster.

It's an early commercial example, proofed with the Crown/N on the barrel and receiver right under the ejection port. No proof marks are on the frame.

This PP and my HP (made in 1940). Years ago I was at a range and a fellow was had a nice PPK that continued to misfire and he was cussing. He said, 'If anyone here wants to trade a good.38 for this d**n thing, let's talk'. I approached him and traded a S&W M&P for it. He said he inherited it from an Uncle who was in WW2 & he had the holster in his car. He handed over the holster with an extra magazine and cleaning rod attached and departed.

I looked at some of the ammo he was firing & it was steel cased with brass colored primers (duds) and was obviously from the same period as the gun. I got a box of fresh ammo and it functioned perfectly without a hitch.

Several years later a fellow handsomely traded me out of it for some S&W's. It was one of 'those' guns I wish I had kept, even if it was only a.32. I think it must have been a pre-war German Police gun. (live & learn). This PP was made during the end of the Weimar Republic era of Germany. It's proof is a commercial Crown/N symbol (rather than the Eagle/N symbol used by the Nazi government proof house). There were only about 30,000 made before the governmental change, starting with sn 750,000 in 1929.

Some of the serial numbers in the range are PP and others are PPK (they numbered things sequentially regardless of model). Later the numbering separated to different series with a 'P' or 'K' suffix letter. Most of those were government inspected and proofed by representatives of the Waffenamt office stationed at the Walther Zella Mehlis factory. The precision and original high polish blued finish of this PP are of exceptional quality. Ones made toward the end of WW-II didn't show this attention to quality.

While the finish is worn on this (probably putting it on the edge of collect-ability) the bore and mechanics are like new. After getting it home, cleaning it up and stabilizing the finish I find it 'growing on me'. Wendy, I also particularly like this high polish PP and my high polish HP together. The HP is a relatively rare variation of what became the German military's P.38 pistol. This one is from about 1940 or 1941.
